On May 16, the Kenilworth Village Board unanimously approved a program through which residents can receive up to four free 55-gallon rain barrels at no cost to the Village or residents. Rain Barrels can improve the health of your plants (chlorinated water isn’t as good for them as rainwater!), reduce the environmental cost and impact on your wallet of cleaning and pumping water you no longer need need, and reduce flooding in your yard by holding back water running off your roof.
The barrels, furnished by the Metropolitan Water Reclamation District of Greater Chicago’s rain barrel program, are delivered and come with installation and maintenance instructions. Kenilworth is joining over 60 Chicago suburbs — including Wilmette, Evanston, Skokie, Glenview, Morton Grove, and Niles — in taking advantage of the MWRD program. Winnetka is not yet a member of the program.
